MEETING WITH THE MAYOR OF ACCRA AND MCE OF ABLEKUMA WEST

A high-level closed-door meeting was held today at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, bringing together the Mayor of Accra, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ablekuma West, Hon. George Kpakpo Allotey, and a team of consultants working on the Dansoman Emergency Coastal protection project Phase 2.
The meeting focused on strategies to accelerate the much-anticipated sea defence project along the coastal belt, stretching from Ablekuma West toAblekuma South. The ambitious project also seeks to introduce socio-economic amenities like cold stores, fish markets, clinics, solid waste collecting centers, sanitory rooms, shops and car parks that will bring lasting benefits to residents and businesses across the coastal stretch.
With the MCE of Ablekuma West leading the charge, stakeholders expressed optimism about the bold transformation set to reshape the coastal line.
Community Engagement

Ablekuma West Municipal held a community engagement on September 12, 2025, at Gbegbeyise Pentecost central Assembly focused on key issues affecting the municipality.
– Sanitation: The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly has been working to improve environmental hygiene through monthly clean-up exercises. The Municipal Chief Executive, George Kpakpo Allotey, emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining cleanliness.
– Malaria Education: the assembly’s efforts to improve sanitation can contribute to reducing malaria cases by eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
– Illegal Dump Site: The municipality is facing challenges with an illegal dump site at Gbebu Glife Gbegbeyise, which has been taken over by armed scavengers. The assembly is seeking help from the central government to address this issue, estimated to cost around 7 million Ghana cedis to clean up.
– Community Development: The municipality is working on various development projects, including educational infrastructure, security, sports, and social welfare initiatives, under the leadership of Hon. Kweku Addo.

Training for Honourable Assembly Members

The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly organized a capacity building for its honorable Assembly members. In attendance were all honorable members the Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal coordinating Director. The Municipal Assembly is committed to promoting democratic governance, development, and public participation in its municipality. As part of its efforts to improve governance, the assembly engages in various activities. One of such activity is Capacity Building: Providing training and development opportunities for assembly members to enhance their effectiveness in governance and service delivery.
By investing in capacity building for its assembly members, the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly demonstrates its commitment to effective governance and sustainable development.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The community engagement session at Bread of Life Methodist Church, Dansoman Exhibition, brought together residents, local authorities, and stakeholders to discuss pressing issues affecting the community. Key focus areas included
Sanitation: The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. George Kpakpo Allotey, emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and adhering to sanitation laws. He announced the return of the Environmental Health Officer, who will issue notices and fines to individuals violating sanitation regulations.
Road Encroachments: The MCE warned that vehicles encroaching on roads will be towed, and owners will be charged with the cost of towing and a penalty, effective October 13, 2025.
Drainage Issues: The MCE directed the Physical Planning Officer and Urban Roads Officer to address drainage concerns in the Opetekwei community, highlighting the importance of infrastructure maintenance.
– Education and Awareness: The event included educational sessions on sanitation and attitudinal change, as well as guidance on responsible road use.
The community engagement session demonstrated the commitment of local authorities to improving living conditions and promoting community development in Dansoman. By working together, residents and authorities can create a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment.
STAKE HOLDERS ENGAGEMENT ON FEE-FIXING 2026


The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly held a stakeholders’ engagement on fee fixing for 2026, where they discussed various developmental projects and encouraged stakeholders to contribute to the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) through prompt payment of taxes and levies. The Municipal Budget Officer emphasized the importance of collaboration between the assembly and stakeholders in achieving development goals. They also deliberated on proposed fee-fixing resolutions for 2025. These meetings provide opportunities for stakeholders to contribute to decision-making processes and shape the assembly’s revenue collection and budget preparation.
