ABWMA AIDS WEEK CELEBRATION

The Municipal AIDS Committee under the leadership of the Hon. MCE, in collaboration with the Health Directorate organized a week-long celebration to commemorate this year’s World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day is marked annually on 1st December. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response’. This theme was a call to all persons across the various levels of society to get involved in the target of ending AIDS by 2030.

The facility, constructed through the support of the Naa Adoley Foundation and funded by the Government of Qatar, is expected to provide the school with reliable access to clean water and improve sanitation.

Hon. Allotey thanked the partners for their contribution and encouraged the school to maintain the facility for long-term use.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly honoured farmers and agro-related workers within the municipality at this year’s 41st Farmers’ Day celebration.

In his remarks, the MCE praised the dedication of backyard farmers, livestock, fishmongers, agro-processors, and food traders who continue to support the local economy despite the municipality’s urban nature. He noted that their contributions remain vital to food availability, market stability, and livelihood support in Ablekuma West.

Hon. Allotey reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to assisting small-scale agricultural activities, improving market conditions, and encouraging youth participation in modern urban farming. He congratulated all awardees and urged the community to continue adopting innovative practices that enhance productivity within the municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma West, *Hon. George Kpakpo Allotey*, has officially presented the report on the recent fire incident that occurred at the Dansoman Market. He was accompanied by leaders of the market women association, stakeholders, and some affected traders.

The report outlines the findings of the assessment team, the extent of damage, and proposed steps for recovery and preventive measures. The MCE assured the victims of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting them through the rebuilding process while working with relevant agencies to enhance fire safety within the market.

He further emphasized that the Assembly will intensify community sensitization and strengthen collaboration with emergency services to prevent similar incidents in the future

Ablekuma West MCE Embarks on Field Inspection to Clear Encroached Drains and Engage Businesses

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma West has undertaken a field visit to inspect businesses that have blocked drains, constructed on gutters, or restricted water flow within the municipality. The MCE also used the exercise to check business operating permits and ensure compliance.

As part of efforts to secure partnerships for the Dansoman Roundabout beautification project, he engaged several businesses along the corridor to discuss possible collaboration.

Shops built on gutters were cautioned and marked for relocation to allow free access for drainage maintenance and to prevent flooding. The MCE was accompanied by key departmental heads from the Municipal Assembly during the operation.

On 13th November 2025, the leadership of the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. George Kpakpo Allotey, conducted inspections and engagements across key sites in the municipality. The activities focused on advancing initiatives in economic development, healthcare, and education, including the proposed 24-hour economy market, allocation of land for a CHPS compound, and ongoing renovation works at Akweibu Basic School. These efforts demonstrate the Assembly’s commitment to improving the livelihoods, wellbeing, and learning environment of residents in the municipality.

The Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. (Mrs.) Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, has undertaken a working visit to the Ablekuma West Municipality to inspect the progress of the ongoing Sea Defence Project. She was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo, municipal heads led by Mr. Samuel Amoah, as well as a team of engineers and technical experts.
The visit formed part of efforts to verify the current state of the project and to explore practical steps toward its timely completion. During the tour, Hon. Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo used the opportunity to draw the Deputy Minister’s attention to critical drainage challenges within the Mpoase and Glefe communities, where poor drainage systems continue to affect lives and property.
The inspection allowed the Deputy Minister and her technical team to witness firsthand the impact of flooding and coastal erosion in the area. Hon. Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo emphasized the urgent need for ministerial support to provide lasting solutions to these challenges.
The tour, which was initiated and lobbied for by Hon. Rev.
Dr. Kweku Addo, underscores the MP’s continuous advocacy for infrastructural improvement and government intervention to safeguard residents along the coastal stretch of the municipality.

Business Operating Permit

It is expected that every business within the AbWMA’s jurisdiction obtains a Business Operation Permit.

As the name sounds, a Business operating permit is a license that enables you to undertake/do business in the Municipality.

In order to fast track the process of acquiring a business Operating Permit and do business with ease within the City of Accra, the Assembly has put in the following measures in place;

Checklist for processing a Business Operating Permit

  • Produce Registrar General Business Certificate/Certificate Of Incorporation
  • Name of Business
  • Name of Business Owner
  • Business Location (GPS location)/Address
  • Contact Detail.

Temporary Permit

  • An applicant receives a Temporary permit that last for 90 days immediately after producing the above requirement.
  • During this period, the Assembly does its due diligence, background checks and processing in order to generate a Permanent permit for the Applicant.
