Making Politics Safer-Mitigating Violence Against Women in Politics in Africa.
A briefing was held on the research project findings ‘Making Politics Safer-Mitigating Violence Against Women in Politics in Africa.’ The research conducted by the Nordic Africa Institute with support from the National Swedish Research Council, focused on Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
In Ghana, Ablekuma West was one of the selected constituencies that participated in the research study. As part of the research process, the institute presented the findings of the research as a form of feedback mechanism. Participants for the insightful programme were Hon. Assembly Members, Municipal Coordinating Director, representatives of the two main political parties (NDC/NPP), Community members and the Municipal Electoral Commission Officers.
The Session provided insights into political violence and the barriers/challenges women in politics face. Copies of the findings were distributed to participants.
Kiddies March Past 2026
Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly on the 2nd of March 2026 organized a kiddies march past at the Karikari Park. It was for in commensuration of the 69th Independence Day Celebration with performances from the kindergarten leaner’s with the Municipality.
The theme for the celebration is “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope”

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT(MP and MCE Engaged Glefe Residents on Coastal Challenges and Development Priorities
The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Honourable Member of Parliament (MP), held a productive stakeholder engagement with residents of Glefe along the coastal belt. The meeting formed part of the Assembly’s continued commitment to inclusive governance, transparency, and responsive leadership.
The well-attended meeting provided a platform for open dialogue between municipal leadership and community members, including traditional leaders, fisherfolk, women groups, youth representatives, and other stakeholders.
Major concerns raised by residents included sanitation and waste management challenges, poor road access, youth unemployment, and security concerns.
In response, the Honourable MP reaffirmed his commitment to championing coastal protection interventions and collaborating with relevant state agencies to address erosion along the shoreline. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility and community partnership in achieving sustainable development.
The Municipal Chief Executive assured residents that the Assembly is prioritizing sanitation improvement, enhancing waste management services, and integrating drainage and road infrastructure upgrades into the municipality’s development plans. Youth empowerment and skills development initiatives were also highlighted as key focus areas to boost employment and economic growth.
The engagement reflects the Assembly’s dedication to participatory governance and responsive leadership aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of Glefe and the broader Ablekuma West Municipality.
STAFF DURBUR
The ablekuman West Muncipal Assembly held a Staff Durbur and the 27th Of February 2026 at its Premises. This was the first durbur for the year 2026. The human resource manager Madam Cynthia Aryee took the opportunity to educate and inform the staff on some institutional values, professionalism and the need for employees to align to the Assembly’s goals and objectives. She also introduced the current Coordinating Director in the Name of Mr. Setsofia Kudjo Kpenu. Hon George Emmanuel Kpakpo Allotey Challenged the staff to put in their Best and work on their punctuality. Awards were given to staffs who exceled in their assign duties. the category of awards given out was the over all best work for the last quarter of 2025 which went to Mr.. Richard Adote Adotey, The most punctual went to Eric Asante, the best Team player went to Ernestina Tutu Boahene and the best Revenue collector went to Samuel Otoo.
MCE SHARES COMDONS AND CHOCOLATES
The Hon. MCE of the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly together with the HIV/AIDS focal person met with the okada riders at Dansoman Last stop to share condoms and chocolates on Val’s day as part of efforts to conscientize people about HIV/AIDS and promote safe sexual practices.

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo, has led a humanitarian initiative that saw the distribution of nearly 100 wheelchairs to persons with disabilities (PWDs) across the Ablekuma West Constituency, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Accra East and Hope the Chair.
The intervention, driven by the MP’s commitment to inclusive and people-centred development, seeks to ease mobility challenges and improve the quality of life of PWDs within the municipality.
The donation ceremony was graced by the President of the Rotary Club of Accra East and attended by representatives from Trust Hospital, Dansoman Polyclinic, Mrs. Diana Twum, and other key community and institutional stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in responding to the needs of vulnerable groups, noting that leadership must be measured by its impact on lives.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation to the MP and his partners, describing the support as life-changing and a source of renewed dignity and independence.
The initiative further highlights Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo’s proactive leadership and dedication to easing the burdens of persons with disabilities while bringing hope and smiles to families across Ablekuma West.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ablekuma West, Hon. George E. Kpakpo Allotey, led a delegation of key officials on an inspection visit to assess the recent delivery and stock of Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti birds received by the Assembly. The team included the Coordinating Director, Municipal Finance Officer, Auditor, Physical Planning Director, and the Agric Director.
The inspection focused on verifying the quantity received, allocation arrangements, and the condition of the birds. In total, 10,000 birds were delivered to the Assembly. Although a few mortalities were recorded during transportation, officials confirmed that the majority are in good health and responding well to care.
The visit formed part of efforts to ensure proper monitoring and accountability before distribution. The birds are expected to be distributed soon to selected homes and farms, in line with the vision of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama to support livelihoods and strengthen local agricultural production.
Officials expressed satisfaction with the current condition of the stock and indicated that preparations are underway to commence distribution in due course.
first meeting of Dansoman south $ north zonal councils
The Dansoman South & North Zonal Councils of the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly held its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, 28th January, 2026.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders in the municipality, including the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Setsoafia Kpenu, Madam Stella Azumah, Municipal Finance Officer, Administrators for both Councils and the Councillors.
Discussions centered on developmental priorities for the Zonal Councils, with emphasis on community engagement, sanitation, and infrastructural planning. Mr. Kpenu emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening local governance and promoting participatory development at the zonal level.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work together toward the socio-economic growth of Ablekuma West Municipality at large.
Site Mapping and Survey Ongoing for the Six Unit Classroom block at Mpoase Methodist, Dansoman last stop
Site mapping and survey works are currently ongoing at the Mpoase Methodist School as part of preparations for the construction of a new Six (6) Unit classroom block in the premises of the Mpoase Methodist school.
The contract for the project was recently awarded, leading to the sod-cutting ceremony. Consequently, arrangements are underway to ensure the immediate commencement of construction, following the demolition of existing structures and the performance of all required customary rites.
The contractor has assured residents and stakeholders that all necessary measures will be put in place to deliver a solid and durable structure that will serve the educational needs of the Ablekuma West Municipality.
The Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) are closely monitoring developments to ensure the project commences as planned and is completed on schedule for the benefit of the municipality.
