HEPATITIS B DAY

The theme for World Hepatitis Day in Ghana, observed on July 28, is “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down”. This theme emphasizes the urgent need to simplify, scale up, and integrate hepatitis services into national health systems, tackling systemic, societal, financial, and informational barriers that hinder hepatitis elimination and liver cancer prevention.

In Ghana, approximately 3 million people live with Hepatitis B, and 900,000 with Hepatitis C, with high prevalence and low awareness levels contributing to chronic liver diseases being among the top causes of death. To address this, Mega Lifesciences Ghana Limited has partnered with the Ghana Association for the Study of Liver and Digestive Diseases (GASLIDD) to screen 17,500 to 19,000 Ghanaians for Hepatitis B and C free of charge, promoting awareness, vaccination, and treatment access . Ablekuma west municipal health directorate held a mini durbar for screening and free vaccination at the day at Apostolic church behind St. Martin Hospital, shaibu. In attendance was the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Hon. Kweku Addo who fully sponsored the program. The Presiding Member and some of the Assembly members in Ablekuma west were also in attendance
