PIAC CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT @ABLEKUMA WEST

  • On Tuesday 13th October 2026, the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) held a stakeholder engagement with members of the community at the Municipal Assembly. The engagement formed part of PIAC’s nationwide efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and public participation in the management and utilization of Ghana’s petroleum revenues.
  • The meeting brought together officials of the Municipal Assembly , traditional leaders, Assembly members, civil society organizations, youth groups, community representatives, and other key stakeholders. The purpose of the engagement was to educate the public on petroleum revenue management, provide updates on the use of petroleum funds, and gather feedback from citizens regarding development projects financed through petroleum revenues.
  • Participants were taken through various reports and findings on petroleum revenue utilization and were encouraged to actively participate in discussions concerning projects funded through petroleum resources. Community members were also given the opportunity to ask questions, seek clarification on issues relating to petroleum revenue management, and make recommendations aimed at improving transparency and accountability.
  • The Municipal Assembly also commended PIAC for its continuous efforts in promoting accountability and fostering constructive dialogue between government institutions and the public on matters relating to petroleum revenue management.

ABLEKUMA WEST POLYCLINIC OFFICIALLY HANDED OVER TO GHANA HEALTH SERVICE

The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly today officially handed over the newly completed Ablekuma West Polyclinic to the Ghana Health Service, marking an important milestone in the Assembly’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the Municipality.

The construction of the Polyclinic commenced in 2023. It is expected to significantly improve access to quality and affordable healthcare for residents within Ablekuma West and surrounding communities.

The facility will bring essential healthcare services closer to residents, reduce the need to travel long distances to access medical care, strengthen primary and secondary healthcare delivery, and provide an improved environment for healthcare professionals to serve the growing population. It is also expected to contribute to early detection and treatment of illnesses, maternal and child healthcare, preventive healthcare and health education within the Municipality.

The ceremony was chaired by Nii Kanfran II, Gbegbeyise Mantse, and was attended by the Member of Parliament, Municipal Chief Executive, representatives from the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, Hon. Assembly Members, NDC Party executives, traditional authorities, community members and other stakeholders.

As part of the ceremony, the Municipal Health Directorate organised a free health screening exercise, providing residents with the opportunity to access basic health checks and professional medical advice.

The completion and handover of the Polyclinic represents more than the opening of another health facility. It is an investment in the health, wellbeing and future of the people of Ablekuma West.

The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly remains committed to working with the Ghana Health Service and other stakeholders to improve the quality of life of residents and ensure that healthcare services are accessible to all.

Disbursement of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Fund

To maximize long-term impact, the standard 3% allocation from the DACF was split into four distinct operational pillars based on individual socioeconomic assessments: in all fifty-eight beneficiaries were given across the four pillars

  • 🛠️ Economic Empowerment & Income Generation: Provision of industrial sewing machines, deep freezers, shoe-making tools, baking equipment, and raw provisions container setups to help beneficiaries establish or scale up small home businesses.
  • 🎓 Educational Support: Direct payment of school fees, accommodation expenses, and specialized learning materials for PWD students in tertiary, secondary, and vocational technical institutes.
  • 🩺 Medical and Assistive Devices: Procurement of wheelchairs, crutches, white canes, hearing aids, and direct financial clearance for specialized surgeries or ongoing healthcare therapies.
  • 💼 Direct Financial Support: One-time cash grants awarded to highly vulnerable or elderly PWDs with severe immobility to cover immediate upkeep and feeding needs.

Commission of Sempe Stool Customary Land Secretariat

Yesterday, September 30, 2026 a historic, high-profile durbar and gathering of traditional rulers was held at the Otintor Palace in Dansoman. Led by the Sempe Mantse : Nii Adote Otintor II and the King of the Ga State, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II the Ga Mantse, government officials including Metropolitan and Municipal Chief Executive. It also brought together prominent paramount chiefs, divisional sub-chiefs, queen mothers, and kingmakers from across the Ga State. Clad in traditional white regalia amidst historical drumming, chanting, and musketry, the chiefs met to officially commission the Sempe Stool Customary Land Secretariat and solidify traditional land administration boundaries. This event was held at  Otintor Palace grounds, Dansoman, Accra

Second Ordinary Meeting of Abwma

The Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly on the 29th of September 2026 held its Second Ordinary Meeting, bringing together Hon. Member of Parliament, Hon. MCE, Hon. Assembly Members, Heads of Department, Heads of Security Agencies, Traditional Authorities, and other key stakeholders.

During the meeting, the Budget Analyst presented the 2026 Revised Budget for consideration and approval. The Head of Environment and Sanitation also delivered a presentation on the sanitation situation in the Municipality, highlighting key issues and areas requiring attention.

Members were further educated on the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), with emphasis on its provisions and their implications for public institutions and citizens.

Zonal Council Meeting

Dansoman South Zonal Council to begin night toll collection. Assembly and Unit Committee Members of the Dansoman South Zonal Council under the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly (ABWMA) have met to discuss practical measures to strengthen grassroots governance and improve development within communities in the zone.

The meeting, held on Thursday, 24 September, focused on the roles and responsibilities of Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members and how they could work together to support the Zonal Council’s operations and respond more effectively to the needs of residents.

MCE’S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

During this public accountability forum at the Dansoman Trinity Presbyterian Church, the MCE presented updates on key community metrics and structural developments:

  • Flood Risk Reductions: The Assembly detailed its extensive desilting and dredging operations at Otojor and surrounding areas. to safeguard communities in the event of heavy rains.
  • Infrastructure & Roads: Progress reports were given on ongoing inner-community road leveling and pothole patching along major transit link roads to ease traffic congestion.
  • Safety & Logistics: The MCE announced the successful repair and replacement of broken streetlights along high-density public roads to curb nighttime crime and improve road safety.
  • Physical development: The MCE Informed them of the various physical development in the areas of Health, Education etc.
  • Open Dialogue: The floor was opened to residents, church representatives, and local traders to raise specific issues concerning the services and responsibilities of the Assembly.
