Newly Elected Assembly Members and Appointees Sworn in to Advance Local Governance
In a ceremony held to inaugurate the 3rd Assembly, 14 newly elected Assembly Members, government appointees, and 50 Unit Committee Members were sworn in to office, marking the beginning of a new era in local governance. The event was graced by the Deputy Minister for Interior and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who emphasized the importance of good governance and citizen engagement.
The newly elected and appointed members have been inaugurated for a four-year tenure, pursuant to Section 3 of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), following the successful conduct of district level elections on December 17, 2023. The new Assembly consists of 14 elected members and 5 government appointees, making a total of 19 members.
The MCE and Deputy Minister for Interior urged the newly sworn-in members to prioritize the needs of citizens and work towards advancing local governance. They emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and community engagement in ensuring effective governance.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the country's decentralization process, aimed at bringing governance closer to the people. The newly inaugurated members are expected to work together to develop and implement policies that benefit the local community.
