AbWMA Commissions Police Station

An ultra-modern Police Station was inaugurated at Dansoman, SSNIT FLATS. The police station became operational on Monday, 12th December, 2022 to deal with the issue of crime and other security related matters.

Prior to this development, SSNIT FLATS and its closest communities such as Otodjor, lacked any form of security post on its own, except to move to the Divisional headquarters at Dansoman control which makes it difficult for resident to report issues of crime.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. George Cyril Bray addressed the gathering. In his speech, he welcomed all dignitaries and thanked the management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for gifting the land to the Municipal Assembly in order to put the police station to enhance efficient security. He extended his appreciation to the contractor of the project, Messrs Attachy construction limited for a good work done. 

“The police station can boost of two cells (male and female), charge office, Armory, ICT/ control room, commander’s office, three washroom and a storage room”. He said.

In an elaboration, he stated that, the source of funding for the Police Station was the Assembly’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) hence would be equipped with a state of the art digital technology that would enhance output in areas such as investigation of offences such as robbery, threats and other serious crimes.

The police were advised by the Municipal Chief Executive to collaborate with the general public (all major stakeholders), to ensure professionalism and good personal relations as a modern policing in order detect criminals and restore peaceful coexistence among families, individuals, community and further enhance security in the enclave. And also, observe a good maintenance culture to preserve the beautiful edifice. 

Hon. Bray Charged the SSNIT Community members and other stakeholders to support and cooperate to help Police Officers stationed to discharge their mandate effectively. He added that, Policing today had become a shared responsibility between the police and communities hence the initiative to include the formation of the Neighborhood Watch Committees in some electoral areas such as Glefe. 

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency, Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful addressed the gathering. In her remark, she commended the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. George Cyril Bray for his continuous effort to aid in combating crime in the municipality. 

Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful charged residents to cooperate with the police to ensure peace and order in SSNIT Flats and its neighboring communities. An appeal was meted out by the Minister to residents of Otodjor and other communities within the municipality who were yet to receive their share of the ‘‘municipal cake’’ (roads) to remain patient as measures were far advanced to fix their roads.

The event was graced with the presence of the MP for Ablekuma West Constituency, Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, MCE of Ablekuma West, Hon. George Cyril Bray, MCD of Ablekuma West, Mr. Samuel Amoah, Paramount Chiefs of Various Communities, Chiefs, Police Personnel, Distinguished Guests, Staffs of the Assembly and the Public.
