AbWMA HEALTH DIRECTORATE MARKS 2022 MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY
As part of efforts to intensify reproductive health awareness among adolescent girls, the Ablekuma West Health Directorate marked this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD) at the Dansoman '3' & '4' Cluster of Schools.
The Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day initiated by WASH United, a German-based NGO and held on May 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management at a global level. The Health Directorate chose to organise this program on May 31 because the scheduled day was a weekend.
Members of the AbWMA Health Directorate took turns to speak to the adolescent girls about the need to maintain menstrual hygiene. The Head of the AbWMA Social Welfare and Community Development was also present to lend her suppose to the team.
The organizers took the opportunity to distribute sanitary pads to young girls present at the gathering.
Research has found that not having access to menstrual hygiene management products can keep girls home from school during their period each month.
